Our History

Engine City Tech FounderECTI was founded in 1969 by the late Edward McGovern Jr. - former President of Mack Boring & Parts Company. Revered as a dynamic force in the engine industry, Ed Jr. (Mack) applied his genius and foresight into a vision called Engine City Technical Institute. Before him, Mack's father had established the nation's first strictly diesel school in the 1930's. Mack wanted to rekindle his father's vision on a larger scale.

In the late 1960's a growing demand in the industry for qualified diesel technicians emerged, and Mack did not wait for someone else to find a solution. He seized this opportunity to create the ideal educational facility for diesel training. Presently, the ECTI curriculum reflects more than 50 years of Mack's experience in the industry, along with four generations of family interest and involvement in vocational job training. Mack's strong background in education along with his intimate knowledge of the diesel industry has placed ECTI on the forefront as one of the most advanced and intensive occupational schools training diesel technicians.
